Leaders, Are You Self-Aware?
Dear Uncommon Leaders,
Hope your summer is going well! As you prepare for a new week, look for ways to be more uncommon. 👊
Your Sunday Nugget
This Week's Question:
How can a leader become more self-aware?
This Week's Challenge:
Having an accurate self-awareness is an important trait of a good leader. We all have our own perception and beliefs about how others experience us and about our strengths and weaknesses. But how accurate are we? Here are three tips to help with your self-awareness:
1. Ask for honest feedback from people who are around you a lot but who also will tell you the truth. Ask the how you are perceived and what they see as your strengths and weaknesses, then take note.
2. Take a few assessments. DiSC, Strengths Finders and others can help you get more clarity on who you are and how you behave.
3. Review your leadership history and take note of the recurring themes. What can you learn about yourself by reviewing your past, turns out a lot! Sometimes I cringe over my past leadership lapses or failures but that helps me want to get better. We can also see strengths when we look back as well.
We all can benefit from more accuracy in our self-awareness. Your challenge this week is to use these three tips to dial yours in.
Have a great week!
