Reflection Brings Clarity

Dear Uncommon Leaders,

I hope each of you had a great 4th of July holiday weekend! 🇺🇸

As you move into a new week and the halfway point of the year, be sure to carve in some reflection time.

Have an uncommon week! ⤴️

This Week's Question:

How often do you reflect on your leadership journey?

This Week's Challenge:

This past week, my mother came to spend time with us, and it’s been a special one. We went to see the new F1 movie (which was fantastic), spent time with my grandkids, grabbed some barbecue, and are headed to a museum next. It was a fun and meaningful week.

But the best part hasn’t been the activities—it’s been the reflection.

We’ve had deep conversations about life growing up in rural Virginia, the ups and downs along the way, and all the twists in our stories. It’s left me feeling incredibly grateful—not just for her, but for my entire journey, the good and the not-so-good.

Reflection gives us perspective. It reveals how far we’ve come and reminds us we’re still growing. Yet, most of us don’t pause to reflect nearly enough. We’re just too busy.

Your challenge this week:
Find someone who’s known you for a long time—family or friend—and reminisce. Share stories. Learn from each other. Let those memories stir gratitude and fresh insight.

Take a few minutes to reflect on your career too. What were the highs? The lows? What have you learned?

Sometimes a glance back helps us move forward with more clarity.

I hope your week is as rich as mine has been with my mom. Let’s go be uncommon!

This Week's Quote to Ponder:

"We do not learn from experience... we learn from reflecting on experience." - John Dewey

Until next week,

LET'S GO BE UNCOMMON!
