Where in your role or organization do you need to “Wash, Rinse, Repeat?”

This Week's Challenge: 

My former boss in the mortgage industry had a phrase he used often:

“Wash. Rinse. Repeat.”

If I’m being honest, I initially paid more attention to how often he said it than to the wisdom behind it. But over time, I realized how much truth there was in those three words.

His point was simple: we don’t always need to make things more complicated than they have to be.

When business slows down, we feel overwhelmed, or we get stuck, our tendency can be to look for something new—a new idea, a new strategy, or a new process.

But sometimes we simply need to go back to what we already know works.

In the mortgage business, the most successful loan officers may have different personalities and approaches, but they are remarkably consistent with the basics:

They call leads.

They stay in front of people.

They follow up.

They execute the process well.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

I've found the same thing in my own role. The areas where I have the most clarity and confidence usually have a rhythm and a repeatable process behind them.

Good processes give us a baseline for excellence. They create clarity, help us train others, set expectations, and allow us to be proactive instead of reactive.

And when things get overwhelming, they give us a place to start again.

Your challenge this week:

Identify an area in your role or organization that you may be overthinking.

Do you really need something new?

Or do you need to simplify, return to what works, and consistently do it again

Sometimes uncommon results come from doing the common things uncommonly well.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
