Are You Giving Your Best Effort?
Dear Uncommon Leaders,
Happy February! It's a brand new month and another opportunity to take a fresh look at your goals.
Have an uncommon week!
This Week's Question:
Do you evaluate your own effort?
This Week's Challenge:
I talk to leaders all the time who bring up the effort—or lack of it—on their teams. They’ll vent about people not stepping up. And if I’m honest, I’ve done the same.
But here’s the better question:
Do we consistently evaluate our own effort?
Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-fil-A, used to ask a simple but powerful question:
“Are you giving your best effort?”
I must’ve heard him say it a hundred times over the years. And every time, it challenged me.
Why?
Because it’s easy to slip.
To start coasting.
To settle for “good enough” instead of giving our best.
Effort isn’t everything—but it’s a critical part of the impact equation.
I’ve seen incredibly talented people fall short of their potential—not because they lacked skill, but because they got too comfortable.
Your challenge this week:
Take an honest look at your own effort.
Are you bringing your best to your team, your family, your mission?
If not—don’t beat yourself up. But do make a commitment to step it up.
Effort is contagious. Let’s model what it looks like to give our best.
Let’s go be Uncommon.
This Week's Quote to Ponder:
“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” - Robert Collier
Until next week,
LET'S GO BE UNCOMMON!
