Confidence Follows Action
Dear Uncommon Leaders,
I hope you had a great weekend and are ready for the week ahead.
Have a strong and successful week!
Let's go be uncommon!
This Week's Question:
How confident are you professionally?
This Week's Challenge:
Confidence is an interesting thing. Some people seem to have an abundance of it. Others struggle with it. And if I’m honest, I’ve experienced both at different times in my career.
Early in my leadership journey, I thought confidence came from having all the answers. Over time though, I’ve learned it comes more from experience, preparation, surviving challenges, and believe it our not, the ability to say “I don’t know.”
Professional confidence isn’t believing you can do everything.
It’s believing you can figure things out.
It’s trusting that you’ve learned from your wins and from your failures. It’s knowing that even if you don’t have the answer today, you’re capable of finding it.
I’ve noticed that the leaders with the healthiest confidence do a few things consistently:
- They keep learning.
- They prepare.
- They seek feedback.
- They lean into hard things.
- They stay curious.
Every challenge we face becomes another brick in the foundation of our confidence.
Your challenge this week:
Think about an area where you need more confidence.
Then ask yourself:
- What skill do I need to develop?
- What experience do I need to gain?
- What conversation have I been avoiding?
Confidence rarely arrives before action. It usually follows it.
Take one step this week that you’re a little afraid of. Increased confidence may be waiting on the other side of that step.
This Week's Quote to Ponder:
“Confidence comes not from always being right but from not fearing to be wrong.” Peter T. McIntyre
Until next week,
