"Resilient Positivity" and Your Team Culture
Dear Uncommon Leaders,
This week, we will continue our focus on “Evidences of a Healthy Team Culture,” and hope these challenge us all to continue leading in an uncommon way. Have a great week!
Your Sunday Nugget
This Week's Question:
How healthy is your reaction when things go badly?
This Week's Challenge:
Recently I watched a disturbing scene unfold in a restaurant. The kitchen was behind, customers were waiting and the manager behind the counter began angrily yelling at the kitchen staff. Including me, there were several customers at the counter. It was not a positive experience for any of us, especially the people working in the kitchen. The reaction of the manager set the tone for the entire restaurant and it was very negative.
Healthy cultures would not have allowed such a display. The best teams have something we call Resilient Positivity. This is when leaders use their positivity to change the tone of the restaurant when it gets off track.
Anyone can be positive when everything is going smoothly, but the best leaders somehow remain positive even when things go south. In restaurant work, we know that challenging periods happen every single day. It is during and coming out of these challenges that we need to stay positive if we are to steer the culture in a healthier direction.
This week your challenge is to tune in during the tough periods and observe how you and the others around you react. Is it generally positive or might there be some work to do?
This Week's Quote to Ponder:
