Simplicity
Dear Uncommon Leaders,
Hope everyone is gearing up for a great week ahead and upcoming holiday weekend!
Simplicity is the key this week! 👊
This Week's Question:
Where in your life could you pursue more simplicity?
This Week's Challenge:
As leaders, we have a tendency to make things more complicated than they need to be.
We chase new frameworks.
New strategies.
New systems.
New apps.
New disciplines.
Those things certainly have their place.
But I’ve realized something over the years: most of my joy and much of my effectiveness come from the simple things.
When I need clarity, a walk is often better than another meeting.
When I need to recharge, time outside with my wife, our kids, or our grandkids does more for me than almost anything money can buy.
Reading a good book in the hammock.
Going for a bike ride.
Sharing an unhurried meal with friends.
Sitting quietly pondering my blessings.
Simple.
And yet those simple moments often fuel my leadership more than the complicated ones.
The same is true in leadership. Work most often throws more complexity at us but we can counter that with:
Simple conversations.
Simple encouragement.
Simple gratitude.
Simply hanging out with people on my team.
We don’t always need another framework. Sometimes we simply need to get back to what matters most.
Your challenge this week:
Look for one area of your life to simplify.
Maybe it’s your schedule.
Maybe it’s your leadership.
Maybe it’s your relationships.
Maybe it’s your priorities.
Don’t underestimate the power of simple.
Often, the uncommon life isn’t found by adding more.
It’s found by removing what doesn’t matter.
Have a great week.
Let’s go be simple this week!
