The Weight of a Leader's Reflection

Dear Uncommon Leaders,

I hope you all had a great weekend!

This week, we have another special edition Sunday Nugget from Uncommon Coach Kevin Elliott! 👏 Be inspired to challenge your leadership in a new way this week.

Let's go be uncommon! ⤴️

This Week's Question:

Do you ever wonder what you are reflecting?

This Week's Challenge:

I can't say that I really enjoy mirrors these days; aging can be a funny thing! Last week while in the barber chair, I had an extended period looking at myself in the mirror and it got me thinking about my reflection.

What do I really see when I look in the mirror? Perhaps more importantly, what am I truly reflecting to others? Do people see the attributes I hope they would see such as patience, thoughtfulness and helpfulness? What about gratefulness and integrity? Or … do I actually reflect attributes that are negative or even harmful?

A leader’s reflection carries weight. What others see in a leader’s reflection affects them, both in the moment and in the future.

Your challenge this week: Take some time to consider your reflection. What do people "see" when you're present? Consider how you make other people feel. Is your reflection truly what you want it to be? If it is, keep it up! If it isn't, perhaps some intentionality could help in making any necessary adjustments.

This Week's Quote to Ponder:

“In the business world, the rearview mirror is always clearer than the windshield—but how you made people feel often lasts longer than what you achieved.” - Warren Buffett (paraphrased insight)
